Help
is needed - NOW!
Building
work has already started on renovating Bessie Brewers rooming house
on South Main Street, as part of the National Civil Rights Museum's
$8 million expansion which will transport tourists back to the hate-filled
days of 1968 and display a wide array of exhibits from Dr. King's discarded
gum wrappers to the alleged murder weapon. The bushy above the 8 feet
retaining wall, used on the Protest Site is currently being cleared
and it would seem that it is only a matter of time before the Protest
Site is evicted. Although Jacqueline Smith has the cast-iron assurance
from the NCRM that the Protest Site will remain, it is difficult to
believe that there will be no disruption. Non-violent demonstration
and civil disobedience were always the key tactics of the Civil Rights
Movement under the direction of Dr. King. This strategy will continue.
After 14 years, the NCRM cannot be allowed to quash the dreams of Dr.
King.
