City
of Memphis forcibly move the Protest Site.
On
Monday morning, officials from the City of Memphis forcibly moved the
protest site from its present position to outside the construction zone
while Jacqueline Smith was in jail.
The
protest however goes on. In fact, the strength of feeling condemning
the actions of the National Civil Rights Museum and the City of Memphis
continues to escalate. It's shameful that these two respected institutions
have resorted to bully-boy tactics to remove one solitary woman. "Out
of Sight - Out of Mind" appears to be their watchword. If her presence
and message is removed from view, the public will not question their
actions.
However,
this can never be allowed to be the case. The Protest will continue
with the same commitment and purpose. It will fight for the rights for
the disadvantaged and to preserve the dreams of Dr. Martin Luther King
Jr. by teaching change through non-violence and by striving to build
a lasting legacy of his memory, rather than the $8 million sham currently
under construction, which serves no purpose but to re-establish the
hate and violence of the past.
