Jacqueline's personal dream has always been to convert the Lorraine Motel into sheltered housing for the poor and displaced, a community centre or facilities for the needy. However, the quest for greed consumed the area. A "land grab" took place during the 1980's and 90's, driving up the cost of housing in the area and this in turn, has transformed this traditional working area for ordinary folk, into an extension of the tourist boom of Beale Street and a magnet for the wealthy condominium dwellers and speculators.

The commitment and dedication to keeping the dreams of Dr. King alive has meant her personal hopes and ambitions have been put on hold, while she has actively protested for over fourteen years to transform her dreams into reality.
